Chandrika hits 82 in Canada

Former West Indies opening batsman Rajendra Chandrika hit an impressive 82 runs to spur Vikings Cricket Club to a comfortable five-wicket win over Toronto Cricket Club when action in the 2019 Toronto District and Cricket Association Super9 limited overs tournament got cracking recently.

In that match, played at King City on Saturday, the right-handed Chandrika stroked six fours as his team safely reached 169-5 in the 42nd over in replying to Toronto Cricket Club’s 168 all out, made in the penultimate over.
Chandrika, who had featured in 5 tests, also shared a responsible 104-run second-wicket stand with opener Rayyankhan Pathan, who contributed a useful 43. Akash Shah made 22 not out to help bring home the victory.
In Toronto Cricket Club’s innings, Riyazkhan Pathan made 49 not out; while Canada batsman Bhavindu Adhihetty scored 36 and Nitish Kumar, another Canada international player, chipped in with 27.
Off-spinner Shah produced a clinical bowling performance to claim 4-36 from 10 overs, and 13-year-old Raqib Shamsudeen bagged two wickets for 19 runs from seven testing overs.
Former Guyana and West Indies batsman Royston Crandon captained the successful team, while Guyanese cricketers Jeremy Gordon and Mark Montfort represented the Vikings. The competition continues on Sunday.
