“Cherish Me” outsprints “The Republican” in feature race

Top-ranked race horse ‘Cherish Me’, piloted by jockey Colin Ross, outsprinted its top-of-the-line rival ‘The Republican’ to win the feature 1300-metre race for 3-year -old Guyana-bred horses and pocket the winner’s prize of $300,000.

“Catch a Glimpse” and “Gold Again” go neck-to-neck past the pole at the end of the J and K 4-year-old race

This was the most anticipated race of Thursday’s 6-race Emancipation Day meet promoted by the 4-Horse Man Promotions Group in collaboration with the Crawford Memorial Turf Club & Sports Facility (CMTC&SF), and held in commemoration of the centenary observance of the Port Mourant Turf Club on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice.
‘Awesome Banner’ came in third to lay claim to the $150,000 prize, while ‘TP 360’ came in fourth and was rewarded with $55,000.
Jockey Colin Ross was also successful in piloting ‘Silver and Things’ over a distance of 1300 metres to win the race for animals classified H1 and Lower and claim the winner’s prize of $220,000. ‘Not dis Time’, piloted by jockey Richmond, ran a close second, while ‘Red Rocket’ and ‘Kentucky Woman’ finished in that respective order some distance behind.

In the race for animals classified J and K Lower, over a distance of 1300 metres, ‘Catch a Glimpse,’ piloted by Jockey R. Appadu, took the first prize of $180,000 while ‘Gold Again’ took second prize.
Ross, piloting ‘Mariam’, had to settle for third, while ‘Massapequea Doctor’ brought up the rear.
Ross, however, returned to pilot ‘Uprising King’ ahead of the competition from gate to pole in the race for Guyana-bred horses two years old and over, and cart off the winner’s prize of $140,000.
Also having a good outing was Jockey Kevin Paul, who piloted ‘Justify the Heat’ to win the race for 2-year-old Guyana-bred horses and take home the hefty prize of $220,000.
Paul was also responsible for ‘RT Heat’ winning the race for animals classified L1 and Lower, as he made the mount gallop away from ‘Touch the Class’, ‘Delilah’ and ‘Stolen Diamond’ to take home the prize of $140,000.
The L Class Open race was however won by ‘Delilah’, piloted by jockey Richmond, to capture the first prize of $160,000. Second place went to ‘Touch of Class,’ piloted by jockey A. Mohabir; while ‘The Rock’, piloted by jockey Blakes, placed third, ahead of ‘Flo Jo,’ piloted by jockey Paul Delph. This race culminated the day’s action.
