A People’s National Congress (PNC) Councillor on the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC), 64-year-old Junior Garrett, collapsed and died on Friday afternoon in the compound of his Urquhart Street, Georgetown business place.

City Hall to discuss the city’s budget for 2018.
He returned to his business place to meet someone with whom he had an appointment but collapsed as he entered the premises.
At Woodlands Hospital, the man’s daughter, Levina Garrett, told <<<Guyana Times>>> that she was contacted by her younger brother, who informed her that their father had a heart attack and was rushed to the medical facility.
The young lady also noted that doctors at the medical facility attempted to resuscitate her father, but this proved futile. When this publication arrived at the Hospital, several Councillors along with Mayor of Georgetown, Patricia Chase Green; Deputy Mayor Lionel Jaikarran and Town Clerk Royston King were seen offering their support and condolences to the man’s family.
The Deputy Mayor expressed shock at Garrett’s sudden passing, indicating that “he [Garrett] left at midday. He was his normal vociferous self. We sat next to each other up to midday.”
Garrett was appointed to the position of City Councillor of the city of Georgetown on March 25, 2002.
He was described by colleagues as a passionate community advocate who was especially active in the Campbellville community. He served on several committees, including finance and international relations.
On April 10, 2017, full Council appointed him as its representative on the Central Housing and Planning Authority Board.
In addition, he was considered an expert in his field and a true professional, with skills and qualifications that strongly complemented a Councillor’s role. He leaves to mourn seven children.
