Teen charged for stabbing schoolmate

A 17-year-old lad of the Mercy Wings Vocational and Day Care Centre in Sophia, Georgetown stabbed his 15-year-old schoolmate to his abdomen with a Rambo knife during the course of a fight, and was on Friday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on a charge of attempted murder.
The teen, of Barnwell, North Mocha, East Bank Demerara, has been remanded to prison on the charge, which stated that on January 22, 2018, in the compound of the Mercy Wings Vocational and Day Care Centre at Sophia, he stabbed the 15-year-old during the course of a fight.
Reports indicate that the teens were involved in an argument over a stolen cell phone when the teen drew a knife and stabbed his schoolmate once to his right side abdomen.
The victim was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) by a teacher of the school, and was admitted a patient in the intensive care unit, where he is still hospitalised.
The case has been set for recall on February 14.
