CMTC Horse Meet shifted to February 24

The Crawford Memorial Turf Club (CMTC) was scheduled to host its annual President’s Cup this Saturday; however, owing to unforeseen circumstances and limited sponsors coming on board, the club has shifted the date to February 24, 2020.
In an interview with Guyana Times Sport, Club President Marcel Crawford Jr said, “One of the reasons why the race was shifted was because Rising Sun had shifted their race a week before mine; also, there had been lots of campaigns in Berbice and I felt that this would affected the atmosphere of the meet and the individuals would have not been able to enjoy themselves fully. We are also hoping to get more sponsors on board as we have seen a few come on board thus far. So far, we have Banks DIH, Attorney Senior Counsel Poonai of Georgetown, Poonai Pharmacy of Rose Hall, Fazal Habbibulla, Diquan Trading, Guy Hookumchand of Number 41 Village. Plus, the Monday will be Mash Day and the spirits will be high; hence we capitalised on the opportunity.”
The feature event of this meet is The Crawford Stakes, set to be run over 1400 metres for a winner’s purse of $500,000 and a trophy. The J and Lower race will run over 1400 metres for a winner’s purse of $220,000 and a trophy; the race for 3-Year-Olds which runs over 1400 metres has a winner’s purse of $200,000 and a trophy; the L1 and Lower race over 1000 metres has a winner’s purse of $150,000 and a trophy; the L2 and Lower race over 1000 metres has a winner’s purse of $80,000 while the winner of the L3 Unclassified race over 1000 metres pockets a prize of $60,000.
Individual trophies and other incentives will be given to riders who perform exceptionally well. All races will be run under the rules of the legislative draft of his father, the late Attorney-at-Law Marcel Crawford, and all bookings must be done with a deposit of $5000. Persons desirous of more information are invited to contact Marcel Crawford Jr on 678-5342 or 600-7690.
