Colts crowned three-time Mecca champions

The dynamic Bounty Colts team on Saturday evening outplayed the experienced Dyna’s Ravens to lift the “Road to Mecca” basketball championship trophy for the third time in a row.
The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) was buzzing with excitement after a thrilling third place playoff which saw Linden’s Victory Valley Royals thrashing the Kobras 83-57. After a captivating performance from Guyanese international artiste Timeka Marshall, the fans were pumped and ready for the game of the night.
Colts seemed to have the ball in their court from the onset of the game, with impressive performances from the usual stars, like Stanton Rose, Shane Webster and Shelroy Thomas, who recorded 25, 15 and 20 points respectively.
The Ravens were no match for the pacey Colts team, and found themselves lagging by the third quarter. Colts ended the night with 86 points, 20 ahead of their opponents.
In the presentations for the night, Domair Gladstone was adjudged the most improved player for this year’s tournament, whilst last year’s most valuable player (MVP), Shane Webster, took the coveted prize once again, accumulating 124 points for the season. Webster also walked away with the prize for the most rebounds, that number being 101.
President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), Nigel Hinds, acknowledged the massive turnout of supporters despite the inclement weather prior to the game, noting that the entire tournament was a success.
