CONCACAF Nations League: De Rosario helps Golden Jags needle Puerto Rico

Guyana’s Senior Men’s National Football team, the Golden Jaguars, on Thursday afternoon pulled off a gritty 1-0 victory over Puerto Rico at Windsor Park in Dominica to get the CONCACAF Nations League 2026/27 campaign off to a winning start.

Marco Bonofiglio, in his first assignment as Head Coach, opted for a starting XI that included goalkeeper Quillan Roberts, Jalen Jones, Nathan Moriah-Welsh, Nathan Ferguson, Osaze De Rosario, Omari Glasgow, Liam Gordon, Isaiah Jones, Raushaun Ritch, Terrence Vancooten, and Elliot Bonds.
It was a goalless first half between the familiar foes, with Omari Glasgow making two attempts at goal.
However, in the second, a foul in the area from Puerto Rico saw Guyana being gifted a penalty opportunity. De Rosario converted cleanly, sending the flat shot into the right corner of the goal for what would become the game winner in the 78th.
The Golden Jaguars will turn their attention to Cayman Islands now, who they will face on Sunday, September 27, at the same venue from 15:00h local time.
The Golden Jaguars were drawn in Group A of League B, alongside Puerto Rico, Dominica and the Cayman Islands.
If the Golden Jaguars are to top their group, they will advance to the league’s championship to compete for the title of League B Champions and seal promotion to League A. In addition, those top four teams [group winners] will directly qualify for the 2027 CONCACAF Gold Cup, while the two best group runners-up will secure a spot in the 2027 CONCACAF Gold Cup Prelims.
