Confectionery company, staff robbed at gunpoint

Two staff members attached to confectionery company Sueria Manufacturing were left traumatised after being robbed by three armed bandits at the company’s Industrial Site, Eccles, East Bank Demerara headquarters on Saturday.

Navindra Pooran, 33, an accountant clerk from Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was allegedly robbed of one gold ring valued $60,000 and one Samsung Galaxy mobile phone valued $30,000.
The other employee robbed was a 20-year-old cashier, Hemraj Pooran, from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
Reports are that the gunmen also made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, property of Sueria Manufacturing.
Police disclosed in a statement that the robbery occurred at 08:30h and the men made their escape in a silver grey Toyota Carina 212 motor car with an unknown licence plate number.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Frank Sanicharra, in a social media post, said that although no employee was injured in the attack, in the aftermath, the employees were dealing with the trauma following their experience.
“They held up the employees at gunpoint, [but] thank God no one was hurt. The employees were traumatised – they are all OK, but the scar of the near-death [experience] will always play in their minds,” he said.
Investigations are ongoing.
