Guyana’s budding footballers did nothing short of entertain, last Saturday afternoon during the quarter-final round. North Georgetown’s resilience and Marian Academy’s all-round class on the pitch that lit up the day’s proceedings.
In the first quarter-final game, Enterprise Primary romped to a comfortable 3-1 win over Soesdyke Primary. Toshan Haynes opened the scoring for Enterprise in the fifth minute, but Nathan Roberts was quick with Soesdyke’s reply in the sixth minute. Dontay Kowlessar added to Enterprise’s tally in the 13th minute and Haynes completed his brace in the 19th for the win.

The contest between former champions West Ruimveldt and North Georgetown Primary was entertaining and ended with an upset no one saw coming.
West were clinical as usual, but could not seem to finish well, resulting in a stalemate at the end of regulation and extra time. As such, the game went down to penalty kicks, and when they remained tied 4-4 at that stage, sudden death kicks were employed.
It was North Georgetown’s goalkeeper Akel Junior, who took the final kick for his team and seconds later, the winning save for the victory.
St Pius edged Redeemer Primary with a couple of last-minute goals. A 22nd minute strike from Redeemer’s Adiel Hamilton put them firmly in control when it looked like the game was near its end, but St Pius’ Aron Vasconcellos brought just what the doctor ordered, a brace in the 28th and 30th minute for the 2-1 victory.
Also into the semi-finals are Marian Academy, who manoeuvred a 4-0 drubbing of Ann’s Grove Primary.

Earlier in the day, several other teams played for positions in the plate competition.
All it took for Colaaco Primary to get past Tucville Primary was one goal. The game-winner came off the boots of Darrel Hickson in the 16th minute of their encounter.
Craig and Timehri Primary were both steadfast in taking home a win, resulting in an exciting encounter between the two. With the scores remaining tied at the end of regulation and extra time, the winner had to be decided on penalties.
There, Timehri Primary got the upper hand on their opponents, sinking three penalties as opposed to Craig’s 2.
The following game also went down to the wire and saw Winfer Gardens Primary prevailing over Smith’s Memorial Primary. From the penalty mark, Winfer Gardens were able to net three penalties, compared to Smith’s Memorial’s two.
In the last plate game of the day, Den Amstel Primary were treated to a walkover, thanks to Mocha Primary.
The Pee-Wee Under-11 action will continue this Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the same venue.
