COVID-19 death toll now at 218

The Ministry of Health has announced that the COVID-19 death toll is now at 218 following the death of  two more persons who were infected with the virus

The latest fatalities are a 74-year-old female from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) who died while receiving care at a medical facility and an 82-year-old male from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) who died at his home.

A swab test was done on arrival at a medical facility, which revealed a positive result for COVD-19.

The MOH expresses sincerest condolences to the families of the two deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed.

The Ministry is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the two deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.15), which are in effect until March 31, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
