A 37-year-old Cuban national was fatally stabbed during an altercation at a shipyard at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, on Saturday night.
Dead is Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, who was employed at the shipyard.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 23:00h on Saturday, after Guillen and a 32-year-old Cuban national, who also works at the shipyard, became involved in an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
During the altercation, the 32-year-old allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed Guillen to his chest.
Guillen subsequently collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters at the shipyard.
Other workers at the location restrained the suspect and handed him over to the police. He was arrested and remains in police custody.
A knife suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered and lodged as evidence.
Guillen was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor.
His body was subsequently transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
