Home Sports Darrell wins 50th Independence Anniversary walk race
President’s College student, Akinyele Darrell walked strategically and eventually won the first Guyana Tourism race walk event in observance of Guyana’s 50th Anniversary organised by the Cavilers Sports and Tour Club on Monday.
Akquyl Henry finished second while Enoch Alicock was third in the race that started at President’s College in Golden Grove on the East Coast of Demerara.
The race proceeded to the village’s market before returning to the place of origin for the finish.
In the female category Karen Bobb-Semple took the top position ahead of Tishenna LaRose and Priya Outar who played second and third respectively.
Over fifty participants took part in the walk race, mainly students of President’s College and the winners received trophies donated by Ming’s Products and Service and Herdmanston Lodge with water provided by Southland International.
Meanwhile the CS&TC will stage another Jubilee Anniversary Race Walk on April 24 at the National Park, Thomas Lands, commencing from 06:30h.
Trophies and other prizes will be at stake for the top three finishers of each category; interested walkers are asked to be the finishing line at 06:00h.
