Resaul and Fraser, who started the tournament as underdogs but managed to reach the final on the back of some strong performance fought hard but could not get over that final hurdle. They lost the match 6-2, 6-4.

In the other match, Leyland Leycock and Ronald Murray beat A. Ameerally and Godfrey Lowden 6-2, 6-3 to become the men’s over 35 doubles champions. The pair finished unbeaten in the tournament.

Today from 13:00h at the National Racquet Centre the ladies will clash for top honours in the ladies doubles final. The mother and daughter combination of Shelly and Nicola Ramdyhan will take on strong contenders Afruica Gentle and Cristy Campbell in that encounter. It is expected to be an exciting battle.

The finalists were severe on their opponents in the semis; the duo of Gentle/Cristy Campbell easily defeated Shawna Gentle/Fiona Bushell 6-1, 6-1 while Alana Chung/Margaret Subryan suffered the same fate going down to Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan/Nicola Ramdyhan 6/0, 6/3.

Indeed the tournament has certainly revealed the top doubles partnerships in the tennis arena. Carefully choosing their partners, Guyana’s top three tennis players Heimraj Resaul, Afruica Gentle and Anthony Downes have all reached the finals of their categories in the leading doubles tournament of the year.

Revenge looms for Resaul as he prepare to play against Downes in the final of the Men’s open doubles. After losing to Downes in the mixed doubles final earlier this week, Resaul will have to bring his ‘A’ game to surpass Downes in this event. Resaul will have Jordan as his play mate while Downes will have Jason Andrews by his side.

In their semifinals Resaul and Beaton dashed the hopes of Oswin Coggins and Stephen Bailey by taking them down 6/0, 6/2 while Downes and Andrews in their toughest encounter in the tournament defeated Mark McDonald and Ronald Murray 6/4, 6/4.

The Closing Ceremony will follow these finals. The public is invited to give these athletes support by coming to witness Guyana’s best doubles players vie for the top championship titles.
