Driver in Agricola fatal accident granted $300,000 bail

Bail was granted in the sum of $300,000 to the 50-year-old driver who allegedly caused the death of a pensioner in an accident earlier this month at Agricola, Greater Georgetown.
Last Friday, Trevor Davis of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was taken before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
She read him a charge which alleged that on November 10, he drove motor car PYY 1161 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Imtiaz Isahack, 66.

Dead: Imtiaz Isahack

Davis pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was released on cash bail and the case was adjourned to December 16.
Guyana Times had previously reported that Isahack of Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was making his way across the road on the pedestrian crossing when he was struck down.
Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at around 08:10h in the vicinity of the Agricola Police Outpost. Davis related to the Police that the pedestrian “walked into his path” without looking, thus resulting in the left side of the vehicle colliding with him.
As such, he was flung into the air and thereafter landed on the road.
The pensioner, who sustained several injuries to his head and body, was pronounced dead at the accident scene by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). A breathalyser test conducted on the driver showed no trace of alcohol in his blood. (G1)
