– Police moving full steam ahead to institute charges

Even as Jason Bhaskaran remains in serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, the Police are moving full steam ahead with regard to instituting charges in connection with the deadly smash-up at Coverden, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Sunday morning.
Guyana Times understands that the Police have completed their investigations and the file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

According to information reaching this newspaper, the injured Bhaskaran will be held liable for the deaths of Rudolph Bess, 22, of Lot 220 Kaneville, EBD and Hansranie Persaud, 15, of Grove Housing Scheme, EBD.
The driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, reportedly left his lane to dodge a drop in the roadway, which caused the accident. From reports gathered, several empty beer bottles spun out of the vehicle as it toppled. This newspaper was told that the young man was returning from a wedding to his Track “B” Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara home on the fateful morning.
This publication also understands that the now dead teen girl had sneaked out of her mother’s house to join her friends at one of the blackwater creeks on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway. The grandmother of the dead teenager at the scene was overheard taking about her wayward behaviour.
Based on reports received, the teenager was having an affair with Bess which the family was against. In addition, her relatives had already packed her bags and were willing to send her off with the young man if she had persisted.
On the morning of the accident, Bess and Persaud were returning from a party in Soesdyke on a motorcycle and in the vicinity of the Kaylee’s Service Station, the SUV which was driven by Bhaskaran slammed into them after swerving from a dip in the road.
The motorcycle, along with the two now dead people, was forced into the vehicle driven by Yolanda Fraser-Patterson. She was returning to her Paradise, East Coast Demerara Home with her husband after dropping off a relative at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Her husband, Joseph Patterson reportedly told Police ranks that the accident happened in a “flash”, recalling that he and his wife were chatting when the motorcycle came crashing into them.
As a result of the impact, both Bess and Persaud suffered severe injuries that resulted in parts of their bodies being torn off and scattered on the roadway. Bhaskaran meanwhile lost control of the SUV which toppled several times causing him to incur severe head injuries.
The Guyana Fire Service had to be summoned to the scene to assist in removing the drivers of both vehicles. Fraser-Patterson, her husband and Bhaskaran were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Bhaskaran and the injured woman remain patients at the medical facility, while Patterson was treated and sent away.
