The Education Department in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) has resuscitated the regional Parent Teachers Association (PTA). The Association had previously aided in the effective execution of issues and concerns facing schools on both the East Coast and East Bank; however, some five years ago it became dormant.

Acting Regional Education Officer, Tiffany Harvey, welcomed the resuscitation of the East Coast body after elections were held at the Department’s boardroom in Triumph, East Coast Demerara. The regional officer has since noted that the schools involved have all expressed excitement over the initiative, stressing that she firmly believes it will help in creating and crafting a culture where every stakeholder feels included in what is taking place. This, she said, will aid in reducing and or eradicating several difficulties and challenges confronting a number of schools, as the body would be able to inculcate various methods and systems, thus supporting the respective schools in enhancing its environment for all to learn.
The Education Department head stressed that her intentions for both the East Coast and the East Bank are they would remain very active as she foresees the PTAs playing a critically important role in advancing education within the region. She disclosed that after the East Bank’s election, there would be another election to elect a regional body.
Harvey further disclosed that various stakeholders would be invited to forge relationships with the Department as they seek to advance the work and objectives of the Department. “We want to engage the Police, we want to engage the hospitals, we want to engage as many stakeholders as possible to enhance the delivery of education in Region Four and I firmly believe that with the PTA body on board we can get it done,” Harvey declared.
Those elected to serve are Charles Greaves of St Pius Primary as President; Vice President, Deonarine Dutt of LBI Primary; along with the other committee members from schools such as LBI Secondary, Presidents Collage, Golden Grove Secondary, among others.
