The Guyanese contingent continues to excel at the 60Th Caribbean Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) championships with three of their players billing semifinal spots in the men’s and women’s singles.
In the women’s singles, Chelsea Edghill and Trenace Lowe have asserted their dominance against their Caribbean counterparts whilst Christopher Franklin excels in the men’s department.
Franklin, before making it to the quarterfinal, demolished Samuel Delepine of Martinique and repeated the feat against Abit Tejada of the Dominican Republic to advance to the semis where he will face defending champion Samuel Galvez.
On the other hand, Lowe overcame Trinidadians Aleena Edwards and Catherine Spicer to advance through the tricky stage, but she has yet to meet with the tough competition. Lowe has made it to the semifinal where she will match skills with Dominican Republic’s Yasiris Ortiz.
Seemingly fuelled by her Under 21 win, Edghill dusted the competition with wins over Dominican Republic’s Dahyana Rojas and Puerto Rico’s Alanis Reyes, to earn her semifinal spot. There the twenty one year old will wield her racquet against Eva Brito of the Dominican Republic.
Newly crowned Under 21 male champion, Shemar Britton looked good in the competition but could not surpass Dominican Republic’s Emil Santos for the semifinal spot. Out of the groups, he overpowered Maxime Graignon of Guadeloupe 3-0, Kweisi Willoughby of Jamaica 3-1 and Simon Tomlinson of Jamaica 3-0.
The remainder of the Guyanese contingent had great showings also. In the women’s, Natalie Cummings defeated Barbados’ Krystal Harvey, Jamiaca’s Seija Monee Rose and Trinidad and Tobago’s Brittany Joseph before missing out at the hands of Yasiris Ortiz.
The men saw the experienced Nigel Bryan failing to make it out of the group stage witt two tough losses to Curtis Humphreys and Kevin Farley of Barbados.
Meanwhile, Joel Alleyne registered two wins against Derron Douglas of Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaican player Kane Watson before losing his marbles against Curtis Humphreys.
