The forum, held from on Friday and Saturday brought together Ministers of Government and senior religious leaders from member states of the Organisation of American States (OAS) to discuss issues relating to religious affairs, freedom of religion and worship, interfaith collaboration, human rights and approaches to addressing intolerance. In joint remarks, the Commissioners said the engagement was meaningful, citing the value of discussions on religious tolerance and freedom of worship. They noted that the exchange of ideas, presentations and dialogue contributed to a broader understanding of mechanisms to reduce intolerance and promote religious freedom. The ERC said its participation aligns with its mandate to promote ethnic harmony and good relations among all Guyanese, while encouraging respect for the country’s religious diversity. The dialogue also provided an opportunity for the Commission to compare experiences with peer institutions across the region and identify practices that could support interfaith understanding and social cohesion in Guyana.
