A 33-year-old labourer of Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) has been fined $80,000 after pleading guilty to two traffic-related offences. Jason Persaud was charged with refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified. The offences were committed on April 22 on the Anna Regina Public Road, Essequibo Coast. The matter was heard on Thursday last at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed where the charges were read to Persaud pleaded guilty to both offences.

For the offence of refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test, Persaud was fined $30,000, with an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment in default. For driving while disqualified, he was fined $50,000, also with an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment in default.
