Essequibo’s Phagwah mela set for March 13 at Anna Regina

The Anna Regina Community Centre ground will come ablaze with entertainment fire on March 13, when the biggest ever Phagwah mela to be held in the Cinderella County is hosted by the Essequibo Praant of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, in collaboration with the Premaul Family of the United States of America. essequibo 2
Apart from unforgettable live performances from Chutney doyens Ravi D, Denis Tatpaul, Amanda D, and Sandra Benie, the mela will also feature classical dance pieces by leading dance troupes Dharmic Swarswattie Dance Academy and Khandiya.
The artistes will be backed in their scintillating performances by Sangeet Rhythmn Band, assisted by the Amir Baksh sound system.
Free seven curries along with special treats and powder will be given to those in attendance. According to sponsor of the event, Premaul Singh, he looks forward every year for the event to be staged, and is happy to return home to threat his fellow Essequibians for the festive season of Holi.

The phagwah mela is a yearly anticipated event. The festival of Phagwah is celebrated in the Hindu month of “Phalgun”. The burning of holika dhaan will be done on the evening of March 12. The festival signifies the triumph of Good over Evil.
