Ex-cop, accomplices charged

Cloy Livan, 28, of Lot 47 Richards Town, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara; Devon Chase, 30, an ex-Police Officer of Hill Street, Albouystown; and Fredrick Boyce, who were all arrested following a high-speed chase by Police Officers, all appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

They were made to answer to multiple charges which were read to them.

The first charge alleged that the three men on November 3, 2016, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), while in the company of each other and armed with a dangerous weapon, robbed Alvin Ramnarine of $1 million.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charge.

However, Chase pleaded guilty to the charge of being in possession of one .38 revolver and matching rounds of ammunition, without being the holder of a firearm licence.

He was fined $30,000 each for being in possession of the gun and ammunition and sentenced to two years in prison for each count; the sentences will run concurrently.

Boyce pleaded not guilty to another charge which stated that on June 25, 2015 at Cotton Street Village, West Coast Berbice and while being in the company of others and being armed, he robbed Susankar Narine of $1.5 million.

Boyce was also implicated in the shooting and robbery of businessman Rameez Mohammed of BM Soat Auto Sales.

The men were remanded to prison until December 13, 2016, the date of their next court appearance.

According to information, on the day of their arrest, the three men were all seen in a tinted vehicle bearing fake registration plates.

Reports are that Police ranks observed the car on Regent Street, Georgetown and approached it, but the occupants drove away and the ranks gave chase.

After driving through several streets in Georgetown, the driver of the tinted vehicle lost control and ended up in a ditch.he men were all caught and taken into custody.
