…urges students to dream bigger after record-breaking results
Following Friday’s release of the 2026 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) results, President Dr Irfaan Ali has extended congratulations to all the children who wrote the examination, reminding them that this is just the beginning of their journey to even greater success. In a video statement on Friday, the Head of State commended those students who emerged successful at this year’s NGSA.
“Your hard work, discipline, and determination have been rewarded, and you should be proud of what you have accomplished,” he said. For the first time in history, 20 pupils who sat the NGSA shared that top spot with a perfect score of 484.5. Additionally, this year’s examination also saw record improvements in all four subject areas. While the Head of State commended those who achieved outstanding results, President Ali reminded others that the NGSA is a stepping stone to an exciting new chapter with unlimited possibilities ahead.
“I also want to congratulate every other student who sat these examinations. You accepted the challenge, persevered and reached an important milestone in your educational journey. Remember, NGSA is not the finish line; it is the starting line. The results at the NGSA do not define your destination. It simply opens the door to your next adventure.”

“In September, you will begin an exciting new chapter as secondary school students. Ahead of you lie new classrooms, new teachers, new classmates, new subjects, new discoveries, and new opportunities. Some of you will be leaving familiar surroundings. Some of you may be feeling excited. Others may be nervous. This is perfectly natural. Every new beginning carries a little uncertainty, but it also carries unlimited possibility,” he stated.
Take advantage of opportunities
To this end, the Guyanese leader encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunities ahead which will help mould their future. Reflecting on his own experience, Ali posited that schools are much more than a place of learning but also where knowledge is imparted, true and lasting friendships are formed, values are shaped, and characters are strengthened.
“Schools do more than educate minds; they build character, inspire dreams, and shape futures… I want every one of you, regardless of your examination results, to embrace the opportunities that await you. Remember, it is not the name of the school that determines your future. It is the commitment you bring into the classroom every single day. Success is built through consistency. Many of life’s greatest achievements have been accomplished by people who simply refused to stop learning, refused to give up and refused to allow one moment to define them.”
“Each of you has something unique to contribute to Guyana. Your future will not be written by one examination. It will be written by thousands of choices you make from this day forward. As you enter secondary school, challenge yourselves. I encourage you to read widely, ask questions, respect your teachers, support your classmates, work hard, dream boldly, enjoy school, and never stop believing that you can become something extraordinary,” the Head of State declared.
He went on to also congratulate the parents, guardians and teachers whom he said are equally responsible for the outstanding performances delivered at this year’s NGSA. According to the Guyanese leader, his Government will continue to invest heavily and holistically in the education sector.
“We are building new schools, improving classrooms, expanding access to technology, strengthening teachers’ training, providing learning resources, and ensuring that families receive greater material support in educating their children. We are doing all of this because we believe that when we invest in education, we’re investing in Guyana’s future.”
“Our commitment is that no child should be denied the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential because of circumstance. That is why we’ll continue to provide the resources, the facilities, the opportunities, and the support to help each of you become the very best version of yourselves as you prepare to walk through the gates of your new schools this September,” the Head of State emphasised.
