The living quarters of employees attached to Home Zone Furniture Store at Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), were destroyed by a fire of unknown origin on Thursday.

According to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), following the report of the fire, firefighters from the Diamond and Eccles Fire Stations responded and immediately commenced firefighting operations.
Through their swift and coordinated efforts, the blaze was contained to a single building, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. While the fire has been extinguished, the cause is yet to be determined.
However, the GFS reminds the public to remain vigilant and to report fires and other emergencies immediately by calling 912.
Meanwhile, Home Zone boasts of its emergency preparedness measures that were in place, including strategically positioned fire extinguishers throughout the facility and a team of trained staff who responded immediately, which contained the fire in its early stages.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Guyana Fire Service and the firefighters who responded with exceptional speed and professionalism. Their prompt action, together with the efforts of our staff, ensured that the situation was brought under control quickly and safely,” the establishment stated in a social media post.
The company further stated that all its staff members are safe and fully accounted for, and no injuries were sustained during the inferno.
