Days after attempting to murder a 57-year-old woman and a teenager at Agatash Village, Bartica, Essequibo River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), the suspect was on Wednesday charged and remanded to prison. Anthony Fredericks, 28, a gold miner/fisherman of Agatash Village was slapped with felonious wounding and unlawful wounding charges. He appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday where the charges were read to him to which he pleaded not guilty to both of them. As such, he was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on September 10, 2026.
It was reported that on Monday at about 21:30h, the housewife and the teenager were attacked by a suspect, during which they sustained injuries. They were taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where they were examined, treated and admitted as patients. The 19-year-old was subsequently referred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical attention. His condition is regarded as serious, while the 57-year-old woman is in a stable condition. The suspect was subsequently apprehended and charged.
