Fisherman stabbed, beaten to death

Twenty-six-year-old Monoff Azeem of Lot 49 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, lost his life after he was beaten and stabbed to death by a group of men. According to reports, the incident occurred around 08:00h on Monday.
Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) Police Commander Mahendra Sewnarine, when contacted, told this publication that the matter is currently being investigated.
Siwnarine revealed that the stabbing followed an argument on Sunday between the two fishermen over the cutting of a fishing seine.
“The information we have so far is the two fishermen had an argument over a seine, one of them cutting the other’s seine and that led to a scuffle,” Siwnarine revealed.
Guyana Times understands that the matter was one of mistaken identity since it was Azeem’s brother-in-law who had the dispute the suspect.
