Flying Ace Cycle race pedals off today in New Amsterdam ─ only Berbice cyclists allowed to race

In honor of Mayor Winifred Haywood, the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) under the leadership of Randolph Roberts, has organized its second annual 10 lap cycle race that will commence today, Sunday April 28 from 13:00h local time.
The best cyclists from Berbice will transform the Town New Amsterdam into their playfield when they start the race at Rainbow Bar and Beer Garden on Republic Road Charles Place.
The cyclists will move North into Vryheid and turn west into Vryheid Street, south to the main road and left to Philadelphia street and onto the Republic Road. After 10 laps of exciting pedaling, the race around the New Amsterdam will conclude at its starting point at the Rainbow Bar.
Speaking to this publication on the eve of the cycling event, Roberts disclosed that the top five cyclists will be awarded immediately after the race at the presentation ceremony, where the winner will receive the Mayor’s lien. the top veteran and the first three juveniles. There will also be eight prime point prizes up for grabs. A number of sponsors from Berbice have come together to make this cycling event possible.
He noted that this race is only opened to Berbice cyclists; the ancient county will witness the likes of top cyclists Andre “Padlock” Green and Balram Narine, while Romello Crawford will miss this event due to overseas duty.
This is the third year of the race but it will be second year in the honor of Mayor Winifred Haywood. At 13:00h local time the race will commence and the Mayor of New Amsterdam, the Councilors, among other members will be present to assist in the presentation ceremony.
