Fmr GAWU General Secretary appointed Chief Labour Officer

Former General Secretary of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU), Aslim Singh, has been appointed the country’s new Chief Labour Officer.
The post was previously held by Dhaneshwar Deonarine. Singh is an experienced Human Resources/Employee Relations Manager with a strong background in legal compliance and collective bargaining agreements. He holds a Masters of Science in Industrial and Employment Relations and a Masters of Business Administration in Human Relations. Singh is presently accompanying Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning Keoma Griffith, at the meeting of the Working Groups of the XXII Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labour (IACML) and the RIAL Workshop on Social Dialogue underway in Paraguay.

The engagement brings together labour Ministers, officials, and regional stakeholders from across the Americas to advance discussions on institutionalised social dialogue, labour policy, workforce development, social protection systems, and the future of work through collaborative and people-centred approaches.
Meanwhile, GAWU has since appointed Porandatt Narine as its new General Secretary.
