Freak storm rips off section of Corriverton Market roof

A freak storm on Friday ripped off a section of the Corriverton Market roof.
Reports are the storm hit at about 10:00h on Friday leaving more than 24 stall holders with water damages.
Grocery, clothing and haberdashery vendors occupy the section where the roof ripped off.
“The storm just twirl around and pick up everything and carry them to the parking lot over there,” a vendor told this publication.

The incident sent scores of vendors and customers running for shelter.
According to Kenneth Jafiq, who has been a vendor of that market for more than 30 years, apart from the removal of the zinc sheets by the wind, pieces of the rafters fell, damaging stalls and merchandise.
“Everything happen so sudden that you didn’t get a chance to do anything. Within seconds everything damage,” Jafiq related.
On Saturday, efforts were being made to replace the section of the roof which was ripped off. Several buildings in close proximity to the market were also affected.
There were no injuries reported.
