GCC Teams dominate opening day of 2nd Igloo Hockey Festival

The GCC teams racked up wins across two age categories when play was staged on day one of the second Igloo Hockey Festival.
In the final of the U-10 mixed category, GCC Hurricanes clashed with sister side GCC Thunder, and the former emerged victorious, scoring two goals without response.

Action in the U-17 Girls category

And in the U-14 Girls category, GCC Marian took on Saints’ Sensations and won convincingly — 5 goals to 2 in the first semi-final — to book a spot in the finals.
The GCC Marian girls will be facing the GCC Challengers, who needed a penalty shootout to defeat the GCC Warriors.
The Challengers and the Warriors played to an entertaining 4-4 draw in full time, and it was down to penalties to decide the victors.

The Challengers held their nerves and won 6-5 on penalties.
In semi-final one of the U-14 Boys category, Saints Scorpions thumped Saints Scorchers 11-4 to seal a final berth.
The second semi-final, to be played today, features the Hikers going up against the Old Fort Arrows for a chance to face the Saints Scorpions in the final.
Originally, three teams were slated to battle it out in the U-21 ladies category, but a cancellation from Hikers meant that the GCC Spartans and the Old Fort Lady Bugs will now play three rounds to determine the victor in that category.
In the first round that was played on Saturday, the GCC Spartans drew first blood with a resounding 12-2 victory.
Over in the opening round of the U-17 Boys category, GCC held on to a slender lead to emerge 4-3 winners over the Old Fort Gunners, while the St Joseph Warriors overcame defensive hiccups to win 4-2 against Saints.
