GCS supports athletes bound for CARIFTA Games

Athletes bound for the Junior CARIFTA Games 2019, to be held in the Grand Cayman Islands, have received a timely boost from the Guyana Committee of Services (GCS), a non-profit, non-governmental organisation.
This organisation has set out to support the nine participating athletes as they prepare for the games, scheduled from April 20-22.

The GCS was formed in 2016, and started its first project to assist Guyanese boxer Clive Atwell when he was in need of major surgery at the sum of 5 million dollars.
From then, the GCS has gone on to assist other sportsmen and sporting-related activities in its three-year tenure.
The committee consists of Chairman Eugene Noel, and popular comedians Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones and Rajan Tiwari as the Vice Chairman and Public Relations Officer respectively. According to Jones, “In 2018, we launched training camps in Berbice and Linden, donated sports gears to Bartica, and hosted a concert to raise funds. We have recorded the concert, and are selling it for $500 in front of Payless Variety Store today from 10:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. The money raised will go towards the 17 athletes participating in the games. Besides the Junior CARIFTA, we have been assisting other sportsmen and women. Once we see the need, we come forward and make our presence felt.”
Jones further relayed that GCS is very passionate about what it is doing as it sees a need for the development of athletes in Guyana. He also said it is because of sponsors such as Star Party Rentals, ANSA McAL and Banks DIH, Payless Variety Store, E-Networks and many others that the organization is able to achieve greatness.
