Home Sports Georgetown Turf Club marks March 10 meet
The Georgetown Turf Club will be catering to the appetite of horseracing fans especially on the East Bank of Demerara on Sunday, March 10, when it stages a meet at the Mocha Arcadia race track just after hosting a successful pre-Mashramani Gymkhana event. This meet is slated to commence at 13:00 hrs.
Racing promoter Compton Sancho has said the venue would ideally facilitate people living at the new Herstelling Housing Scheme witnessing horse racing action.
He said the main goal is to reintroduce horse racing in Demerara County, since most horse racing events are kept in Berbice and it is costly for individuals to travel so far. The promoter disclosed that preparation has commenced on the track, with a few other renovating works that should be finished well before Sunday.
He noted that keen rivalry is anticipated between top horses Victoria and Red Jet. In their last meet, Red Jet was victorious, but Victoria has continued to show determination, and will be looking to level the score this Sunday.
The event will feature six races, in which the K/Class and Lower horses will be the feature event. Among the horses participating in the event are Victoria, Red Jet, Up Front, Early Bird, Something Special, Irish Boy, Rashel, Simpson, Dr Switch, Amazon Warrior and many others.
Sancho said, “I would like to thank the horse racing fans for their support; and the sponsors, for always coming on board and making these events a success. We at the Georgetown Turf Club promise to keep horse meets as regularly as possible, so that people can be comfortable and enjoy horse racing in Demerara.”
