Getaway car driver remanded

ECD robbery

Twenty-eight-year-old Travis John of South Ruimveldt Georgetown, alleged driver of the getaway car used in the July 17th East Coast Demerara robbery in which a man who had just withdrawn money from a bank had been pounced upon and robbed of some $1.7 million, was on Friday arraigned before the Mahaica magistrate on a charge of robbery.
He denied the allegation that he, along with others, had been involved in the

robbery.
Guyana Times had previously reported that, moments after the ECD resident had arrived home after withdrawing the cash, he was pounced upon and robbed.
The three gunmen had reportedly pulled up in a Spacio motor car and relieved the victim of his cash; but the Police were promptly contacted, and the getaway car was seen on the Mahaica Railway Embankment with one of the perpetrators attempting to change a fake licence plate which had been used during commission of the robbery.
This alleged perpetrator was apprehended, and the Police are said to be still on the hunt for the other two gunmen. The stolen cash was not recovered.
John has been remanded, and will return to court on August 3.
