Public Works Minister Juan Edghill is currently representing Guyana as an honorary guest at the 2026 Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF), which is being held in Leipzig, Germany.
The summit, which is the premier global event for transport policy, will be held from May 6 to 8, 2026, under the theme “Funding Resilient Transport” and brings together over 1000 delegates, including transport Ministers from across the globe, industry leaders, and policy experts.

The discussions are centred on the second phase of a strategic trilogy of transport resilience – specifically addressing physical infrastructure, digital connectivity, and the mobilisation of financing for future-proof transport systems.
As Guyana undergoes an unprecedented infrastructure transformation, Edghill’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to aligning its domestic development with global standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
During the three-day summit, country development topics in which Guyana has an interest include infrastructure resilience, financing strategies, and digital transformation. These topics encapsulate the Government of Guyana’s infrastructural trajectory, which is premised on resilience and sustainability.
Minister Edghill has since participated in a panel discussion with the Dominican Republic and Brazil, where the focus was on funding resilient transport. He is expected to participate in several high-level Ministerial roundtables and bilateral meetings to further strengthen Guyana’s international partnerships in the transport and public works sectors.
The International Transport Forum is an inter-Governmental organisation with 66 member countries that acts as a strategic think tank for transport policy.
The annual summit remains the world›s most significant venue for discussing the advancement of the sector and ensuring that global transport systems remain resilient in the face of economic and environmental challenges.
