A welder was taken into custody following the discovery of a quantity of cannabis during a riverine patrol on Tuesday in the vicinity of First Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Police stated that during the exercise they intercepted a wooden vessel with four occupants, including a 33-year-old welder from the Bartica Housing Scheme who was seen trying to dispose of three black parcels into the river.
The parcels were, however, retrieved, and upon inspection, a quantity of cannabis was found.
The occupants were arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the ganja was weighed and amounted to 362 grams. The welder remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
