GOAPC hosts weekend of tape-ball cricket

The Georgetown Office Assistants Promotion Committee (GOAPC) is set to host a weekend of tape-ball cricket with two competitions scheduled for today, Saturday, April 18 and Sunday at venues including the National Park tarmac and the GNIC Ground, starting from 09:00h.
On Saturday, the organisation will stage its “Spot the Talent Early” secondary school boys’ eight-a-side tape-ball cricket competition, featuring teams from Berbice, the East Coast, Georgetown, the East Bank, West Demerara and Essequibo. The tournament is aimed at identifying and developing young cricketers, primarily from second, third and fourth forms, with a focus on strengthening school-level teams across the country.
Organisers indicated that the competition would feature several matches throughout the day, with prizes to be awarded to outstanding performers at the conclusion of the event. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to expand grassroots cricket, while the group continues to seek additional co-sponsorship from the business community to support its programmes.
On Sunday, attention will shift to the “One Guyana” Inter-Ministries 11-a-side, eight-over knockout competition, which will be played at the National Park tarmac. The event is being sponsored by Start Express and coordinated by James “Uprising” Lewis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Several Government entities have already indicated their intention to participate, including the Ministry of Education Young Guns team, drawn from secondary schools, as well as the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, Parliament of Guyana, Audit Office of Guyana, Maritime Administration Department, Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Housing, Guyana Revenue Authority, Guyana Water Incorporated, Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education teachers team.
