Guyana Harpy Eagles started this season with a four-wicket win against Windward Islands Volcanoes in Antigua.
According to Captain Tevin Imlach, the spin power of the Guyana Harpy Eagles is the strength of the team. He credited international spinner Gudakesh Motie, who claimed 10 wickets in the match.
“Motie was brilliant for us. Our spin is our strength. To see Motie get 10 wickets for us in this game is very important for us,” Imlach said.
Reflecting on the first match this season, he also gave credit to his opponents where it was due, noting that the Volcanoes played good cricket for the majority of the match.
“They won most of the sessions in the first two days. They bowled better than us in the first innings.
“We were good in the back end of the game. We had some good performances from some of our batters,” the Captain said.
With the weather being unpredictable in Guyana, preparations for the defending champions did not go according to plan, but experience prevailed for the Harpy Eagles.
“Experience came to play in the back end. It was a good game for us considering we had some challenges in terms of preparations,” the Guyanese skipper added.
The two teams will return to action in Antigua from Sunday, April 19 at the Antigua Recreational Ground.
