Over the past few days, the Government, through the Health Ministry, handed over several vehicles as part of its continued efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to essential health services across the country.
On Saturday, two vehicles were handed over to Regions Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and one to Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) to support the respective Regional Health Services in carrying out critical health-related activities, including the transportation of healthcare workers, medical supplies and equipment, as well as facilitating outreach activities and access to communities.
During the handing-over, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony emphasised the importance of ensuring that health teams, particularly those serving hinterland and remote communities, are equipped with the necessary resources to effectively carry out their duties.
The addition of the vehicles will enhance the regions’ capacity to respond to the healthcare needs of residents while improving the efficiency and reach of health services.
He stated that the Ministry continues to invest in strengthening the country’s health infrastructure, transportation capacity and human resources as part of its commitment to delivering accessible, reliable and quality healthcare to all Guyanese.
Meanwhile, also on Thursday, a bus was handed over to the Region Four Central Georgetown Health Services team.
Similarly, the vehicle will support the transportation needs of healthcare workers and strengthen the team’s ability to effectively coordinate and deliver essential health services across communities within Central Georgetown.
During a simple handing-over exercise, Dr Anthony reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health system by investing in the infrastructure, equipment, and resources required to better serve citizens.
