Demerara Bank Ltd launches new mobile banking app for customers

Demerara Bank Limited has officially launched its new digital banking platform, giving customers access to a range of services from the convenience of their mobile devices. The application allows customers to transfer funds to other Demerara Bank accounts, make transfers to other local banks, and request SWIFT payments, among other features. The platform will also allow users to pay bills, with major utility companies available through the app.
The bank stated that customers can also apply for various products and services through the platform, including new home or vehicle loans and credit cards.
The bank hosted a launching event at its Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Branch on Saturday during which the public was sensitised about the new platform. Speaking with the Guyana Times, Business Development Manager, Farah Hosain explained the reason behind the initiative and outlined how customers can access the new platform. According to Hosain, Android users can download the app from the Google Play Store, while iOS users can access it through the App Store. She explained that once the app is downloaded, customers can complete a simple self-registration process by creating their own username and password, allowing them to access their banking services directly from their mobile devices. The bank noted that its digital banking platform will enable customers to check their account balances, download statements, view transaction histories, and transfer funds between their own accounts.

In addition, customers can request services such as checkbooks, bank drafts, stock payments, and bank statements, while also being able to securely submit documents to the bank through the platform. The bank mentioned that existing customers with credit cards will also be able to make credit card payments directly through the app, describing the platform as “banking at your fingertips.”
Hosain also highlighted the importance of security within the new app, noting that customers can use biometric authentication as an additional layer of protection. “Yes, so one of my favorite things about the app is how secure it is… there are so many amazing features, but I love that it not only requires your password, but you’re also able to add your biometrics as a second layer of security to get into the app. Once you’re in, you’re able to enjoy the full banking experience from the comfort of your home or office, right on your device.”
When asked about the reason for the creation of the digital banking platform at this time, Hosain explained that the initiative is part of Demerara Bank’s goal of providing customers with a full digital banking experience.
“So, at Demerara Bank, our goal is to provide a full digital banking experience to our customers -a world-class banking service for everyone. That’s our goal, which prompted us to invest in creating this app to make banking easier and more convenient for our citizens. We would like every single Demerara Bank customer to use this app – to download it and utilise it because it’s so convenient, user-friendly and accessible to all our customers.” Meanwhile, the bank hosted activities at its location to assist customers in downloading and registering for the app. Hosain said staff members were on hand to guide customers through the process and assist with other banking inquiries.
“Yes, I’m so excited and proud of what we’re doing here today. We have our staff here ready to assist customers. You can simply speak to our friendly staff; they can guide you through the entire process of downloading and registering for the app on the spot. And if you have any other general banking inquiries, come by and we will assist you.” Additionally, the first 100 persons who register at this launch of the mobile app will win a pair of earbuds, and one lucky customer will also win a trip for two to Kaieteur Falls.
