GPL says line disturbance caused power outages

Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Renford Homer said on Thursday that there was a mini disturbance on a primary line at the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) in Duke Street, Kingston, resulting in a total shutdown of the system.
In a statement on the Government’s Department of Public Information (DPI) website, he said this subsequently led to power outages in several areas in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
“Currently, technicians are working expeditiously to resolve the situation,” he said on Thursday evening.
Homer had anticipated then that power would be restored in approximately 45 minutes after 21:00h in all areas while investigations continue.
