Grand commissioning of Anna Regina Stadium set for July 3

Residents in Region Two are poised to enter a new era of sporting development with the official opening of the Anna Regina National Stadium set for July 3.
The project is part of a nationwide drive to modernise infrastructure and expand opportunities for athletes in Region Two and across Guyana.
Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr confirmed the long-awaited commissioning date on Saturday during a visit to the facility. He noted that the stadium is substantially complete, with only minor finishing touches remaining ahead of the opening ceremony.

Construction on the project began in late 2022, and according to the Minister, the journey from the old Anna Regina Ground to a full-fledged stadium required extensive work and dedication.
He also commended Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, for his consistent on-the-ground supervision and efforts to ensure the project meets the required standards and timelines.
The new stadium is set to provide a dedicated space where young athletes can develop their skills in a structured and supportive environment, supporting a wide range of sporting disciplines while also creating opportunities for schools and community organisations to host tournaments and other sporting events.
Among the stadium s most notable features are the modern pavilions, an international-standard playing surface and advanced drainage systems, which Minister Ramson said are comparable to those at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence.
Beyond the infrastructure, the facility will provide opportunities for young athletes to train and compete at a higher level without having to travel to other regions, while also creating avenues for sports tourism, business activity and employment through the hosting of regional and national events.
