Guyana’s national men’s rugby team, the Green Machine, has intensified preparations ahead of a pivotal Rugby Americas North (RAN) Tier Two Fifteens encounter against Barbados this evening at the Garrison Savannah in Bridgetown.
The Guyanese side arrived in Barbados on Wednesday and has since been focused on fine-tuning key aspects of its game as it looks to revive its regional campaign following a narrow 9-5 defeat to Bermuda in its opening match on April 25 at the National Park in Georgetown.
With the Cayman Islands emerging as the frontrunners in the competition, Guyana faces increasing pressure to secure a positive result. A victory over Barbados is considered vital if the Green Machine is to keep alive its hopes of maintaining its Tier Two status while remaining in contention for promotion.

Captain Rondel McArthur will lead the challenge alongside Makaya Smith, Osbert Robinson, Christian Klass, James Osborne, Shawn David, Lionel Holder, Phibian Joseph, Vallon Adams, Jamal Junor, Godfrey Broomes, Tyresse Prescod, Owen Adonis, Godfrey Pollydore, Rickford Cummings, Gavin McPherson, Michael Edwards, Akino James, Odida Douglas, Sebastian Manifie, Renaldo Niles, Kevin Braithwaite, and Julius Jardim.
The touring squad features five changes as the coaching staff seeks to inject additional energy and tactical flexibility into the team. Among the additions are United States-based players Kevin Braithwaite and Tyresse Prescod, along with European-based Julius Jardim, all of whom are expected to bolster the squad with their overseas experience.

Local players Jamal Junor and Osbert Robinson have also earned places in the travelling party after impressing during the team’s domestic preparation programme.
Training sessions in Barbados have concentrated heavily on conversion kicks, penalty execution and defensive structures. Those areas are expected to play a key role as Guyana attempts to avenge the heavy defeat it suffered against the Barbadians in their last meeting one year ago.
The team has already received a strong vote of confidence from Guyana Rugby Football Union President Ryan Gonsalves, who recently expressed belief in the squad’s ability to compete successfully despite the challenges faced during preparation.
Today’s contest is scheduled to kick off at 19:00h under the lights at the Garrison Savannah, with both teams eager to strengthen their position in what has become an increasingly competitive Tier Two championship.
