Mendonca outlines football development agenda in GFF presidency bid

Troy Mendonca has placed football development at the centre of his campaign for the presidency of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), with the former national player and experienced administrator confirming that he will contest the organisation’s next election in 2027.
Mendonca said his vision includes stronger investment in players, clubs, regional associations, coaches, referees and infrastructure, while also improving preparation for Guyana’s national teams.
“I firmly believe that Guyanese football deserves our very best,” Mendonca said. “My campaign will therefore be grounded in moving football forward through strategic planning, accountability, inclusion, and attainable, sustainable decisions.”
Among his main priorities are player development from the grassroots to senior level, expanded education programmes for coaches, referees and administrators, improved football facilities, and greater support for clubs and regional associations.
He also wants stronger partnerships with the Government and Private Sector to attract more investment into the sport.

Mendonca said the decision to seek the GFF presidency was not taken lightly and followed consultations with his family, the Petra Organisation, Camptown Football Club and several football stakeholders.
“I stand before you humbled, grateful, and with a deep sense of responsibility to officially announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the Guyana Football Federation at the next election in 2027,” he said.
Mendonca has served Guyanese football both as a player and administrator and is well known for his work with Marlan Cole through the Petra Organisation, particularly in youth football development.
His candidacy has received the backing of Sterling Products Limited Chief Executive Officer Ramsay Ali, who said Mendonca has the experience and character required for the position.
“Troy knows football. Simple,” Ali said.
Ali noted that Mendonca’s work over the years has helped create opportunities and structure for young players and expressed confidence that he could build a capable team around him if elected.
“He has the knowledge, experience, character, and commitment required to serve football at the highest administrative level in Guyana,” Ali stated.
Ali added that the challenge of leading Guyanese football would not be easy but believed Mendonca was equipped to handle the responsibility.
“I hereby place my full support behind Mr Troy Mendonca as he seeks to ascend to the presidency of the Guyana Football Federation,” he said.
Mendonca, meanwhile, called for unity and partnership across the football fraternity as he begins his campaign.
“This is our opportunity to write a new chapter – one built on unity, strategic planning, inclusion, transparency, and excellence,” he said.
