Griffith wins AC Marriott/Carlton Wheelers Road race

Christopher ‘Legs’ Griffith captured the Open title when the AC Marriott/Carlton Wheelers Cycling Club Road Race was contested on Sunday.

The top six finishers (L-R): Aaron Newton (5th place), Robin Persaud (2nd), Paul DeNobrega (representing Alexander Leung- 6th), Christopher ‘Legs’ Griffith (winner), Andre Greene (third) and Ajani Cutting (4th).

Griffith, riding in KFC Evolution colours, outlasted a field of more than 30 cyclists and crossed the finish line ahead of Robin Persaud (ACM/Carlton Wheelers), who secured second place, while Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycle Club’s (KARCC) Andre ‘Padlock’ Greene completed the podium in third.
National Under-23 champion Ajani Cutting (KARCC) placed fourth, with Aaron Newton (Foundation) and junior cyclist Alexander Leung (Continental CC) finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
Persaud also enjoyed success in the Masters 35-and-over category, securing first place ahead of Segun Hubbard and Paul Cho-We-Nam.
Leung topped the Junior division, while Kevin Stephen finished second. In the Female category, Tandeia (KARCC) Noel claimed victory ahead of Alicia Benjamin.
Mark Spencer won the Masters 50-and-over contest, with Talim Shaw taking second and Ray Harlequin placing third.
Meanwhile, Kevin Edwards (KARCC) finished at the top of the Category Four standings. Leon Koulen (ACM/Carlton Wheelers) secured second place, while Collis Williams rounded out the top three.
The race began from the AC Marriott in Ogle, headed north and turned at the Ogle Airport stoplight. They then travelled south to the first U-turn just after the police outpost on the Ogle Bypass Road before returning to the starting point to complete the circuit.
The Open race saw competitors completing 10 laps along with the Masters over-40, Category Four and Juniors/Juveniles divisions. Masters over 50 raced over five laps, while the Ladies division completed three laps.
