July 11 and 12 will be D-Day for motor sports in Guyana, as the Land of Many Waters hosts the third leg of the GT Challenge de las Americas.
Dubbed the “Guyana Grand Prix”, the weekend’s action at the South Dakota circuit will not go without local representation as renowned Guyanese driver Kristian Jefferey lines up to the grid.
The 2022 Caribbean Radical Champion, in an exclusive interview with this publication, detailed his preparation, which even included picking up another sport.
“Yeah, I’ve been preparing since last year for this event. I was doing a lot of fitness work, going to the gym, and joined the cycle team at KFC Evolution, and I’ve been hectic with it, doing more cycle racing than actual motor racing at this moment,” Jeffrey told the Guyana Times Sport.
He further enlightened, “I contacted Franklin Boodram, Zachary Boodram, and the President of GT de las Americas, Eduardo, about purchasing this car, and here I am today with a brand new Radical RXC GT3. Having this level and calibre of racing in Guyana is something for the fans to come out and watch.”
Discussing his and Mark Vieira’s participation in the race, Jeffrey also hinted at increased local involvement.

“Once it’s racing in your own country, you should always have locals involved, which I’m happy to be a part of,” he said. “Mark has been driving; he’s a great driver. I’m happy to have him as a teammate on board at the races.”
“I’m hearing through the grapevines, I’m sure you guys will hear later on, there are more cars coming to the grid from Guyana, some of which might be driven by ex-Guyanese racers that are really good too, and I guess some more foreigners on the local teams. So, though you’re hearing about Mark and me, there are a few more out there that are going to be released coming this week,” he hinted.
Quizzed on the other machines that will be lining up on race day, the Caribbean Champion divulged information on his Radical RXC GT3.
Jeffrey said, “It’s hard to know because I didn’t even drive the car. The track is still being prepared; I think it’s just finished, so in a few days I might be able to come up with an answer for that.”
“But at this moment, it’s being decided which category it’s going in, either Group Four or GT3, and from there we go. You might be seeing me in a Lamborghini for all I know, you never know,” he joked.
Sharing what to expect from him, Jeffrey vowed that he will not be there to make up numbers.
He explained, “For me, I put in the work. I know my capability, and that is, I don’t go on a grid just to make up numbers; I want to do well. I always want to rep my flag and put Guyana on the map. Being the first proper GT3 race in the country, just being a part of that grid is a phenomenal feeling.”
“Y’all come out and support, and hopefully I can be first at the end of the day,” Jeffrey expressed.
The GT Challenge de las Americas will see qualifying on Saturday, July 11, with the main races set for Sunday, July 12, at the South Dakota Circuit, Timehri.
