GT Tuners eyeing speed and success today

Round 1 of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s Drag Races is finally here, and the GT Tuners Club members are looking to shock the field of competitors when they get on the track today.

With the first full ¼ mile title on the line this Sunday, the GT Tuners Club members are looking to stand up to the likes of Team Mohamed in Round 1 of the races. The Tuners team boasts the experience of three-time 13-second Champion Imran Khan and the wide-eyed eagerness of Raymond Seebarran, who is familiar with the longer distances. However, today, everything will be left on the track.
Khan isn’t too worried about the competition. “The quarter mile is unpredictable. Race day is a totally different scenario, but what we do every drag race, we go out with our A game and we never fear our competition. Whoever comes next to us, and we go down the quarter mile, may the best man win and cross the finish line first,” Khan declared.
Raymond Seebarran, who recently acquired an RX8, is keen on testing his machine, but is confident the team is well poised.

“I did some Endurance racing but I’m a little bit fresh to the drag-racing aspect. I won some championships in circuit racing, but now I’m trying to branch off to see what drag racing is like,” Seebarran shared. He added, “I think we’re going to be pretty competitive. You know, we’re in it to win it, that’s what we do. The cars are up to par with the competitors in our respective classes, so it should be a good show for this weekend.”
On the other hand, Vivek Joshi is on the fence about his machine’s ability. As such, Joshi is looking to test his RX7 today with some future modifications in mind.
“Right now it’s a road car, so I want to keep it street-able. And you really can’t get a street car and say it’s going to be a street/track car. This weekend we’ll know exactly how it works on the track, how well it performs; and maybe I can tweak it a little bit more,” Joshi explained.

More than 60 drivers are expected to compete in the drag races at the South Dakota circuit. With strict COVID-19 measures in place, tickets for the event will not be sold at the venue. The drag action will be livestreamed by eNetworks, on the GMR&SC Facebook page. SKAR TV (Channel 102) as well as Tarzee TV in Bartica are also expected to livestream the races.
