A TT employees on Friday donated more than million in healthcare items to residents of the Palms, Brickdam, Georgetown.
The healthcare products, which were neatly gift wrapped, were handed over during a simply ceremony at the institution.
Almetra Reis, GTT’s Customer Service Representative, told the residents that the donation was made in recognition of their tremendous contributions to Guyana and more so, as the company celebrated 26 years in business.
She explained that the donation was made possible through the kind support of staff of the telecommunications company. Mr Nunes, a social worker at the institution, expressed gratitude to the company on behalf of the residents.
He said that the donation of healthcare items was timely and assured the representatives of the company that it meant a lot.
In her closing remarks, Reid said, “We challenged ourselves to do more and we came up with this Shoe Box Challenge to give back… because we care and we will do more for you – the elderly, the young and everyone in Guyana.”
The Shoe Box Challenge challenged employees to pack shoe boxes with care items suitable for residents of the Palms. The institution was identified given its close proximity to GTT and also because the staff felt that often the elderly were
forgotten in benevolent activities.
The response was very heartening. Employees, including Engineers, Technicians, Customer Care Representatives, Clerical Staff, Managers and the Executive Management, participated. Employees had approximately three weeks in which to complete the challenge.
The staffers were very excited and compassionate as they showed up in their numbers to assist in distributing the gifts to the residents.
Meanwhile at the handing-over ceremony, residents personally thanked the company, while some expressed their gratitude by singing for the staff members.
