GTTA to kick-start 2022 with National Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships

The Guyana Table Tennis Association takes pleasure in extending an invitation to all players and affiliates to participate in the 2022 National Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships, scheduled for play from 22nd January to 23rd January 2022 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.
The National Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships 2022 will be organised and coordinated by the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) under the rules, regulations and authority of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
The following are the events that would be played:
* Boys’ 19 yrs-and-under singles
* Girls’ 19 yrs-and-under singles
* Boys’ 15-yrs-and-under singles
* Girls’ 15-yrs-and-under singles
* Novices’ Girls Singles
* Novices’ Boys Singles
* Boys Open doubles
* Girls Open doubles
* Junior Open mixed doubles.

Seeding for all events would be based on results of placings in last national championships or domestic competitions in the first instance, or according to international ranking if currently available for players who did not participate in domestic tournaments; estimated or last rank of player in previous competition.
The event is open to all nationals of Guyana who are eligible to represent the GTTA, according to the ITTF Handbook 2020. The Tournament Committee would determine the system of play based on the number of entries, using an approach of knockout using best of seven, or first stage round-robin basis in groups of even-numbered players, but there shall not be less than 3 and not more than 5 players in a group, and priority will be given to groups of 4 players.
If there are 5 or less players, the event would be played as a round-robin without knockout. Two players advance from each group to the second stage, which will be played in a knockout format.
Seeding for all the events will be done based on results of placings in last 3 tournaments played according to international ranking, if currently available for players who did not participate in domestic tournaments; estimated or last rank of player in previous competition.
By entering the event, all participants agree to abide by all ITTF rules, and by the rules and regulations of the organisers. All clubs’ individual players agree to abide by the rulings of the ITTF and its agents in all matters concerning television coverage, video, internet web casting, motion picture coverage, and photographic coverage of any kind.
Participants release all rights, or rights held by their agents or sponsors, in all matters relating to television and web casting coverage, video and motion picture coverage, and photographic coverage of any kind; and hence accept such coverage during the event.
Any participant, when called upon, must appear promptly to press conferences or medal presentations, and follow the procedures set by the ITTF and the organisers.
The COVID-19 guidelines that would be in place are:
• Temperature checks, washing and sanitising of hands upon entry on arrival
• Wearing of masks by non-competing players at all times when in playing venue
• Only players whose categories are in progress would be allowed to play on the tables
• A meeting will be held to discuss all protocols
• Persons infringing the COVID-19 guidelines would be debarred from further participation in the competition.
Winners’ runners-up and semifinalists would be awarded with medals of gold, silver and bronze in all events.
