According to an official release from the tournament coordinator Three Peat Promotions, “This year’s group stage round promises to be the most exciting and competitive in recent memory, as several high profile teams are pitted against each other. Most of the matches can be considered dream matchups, and as such, the fans will be treated to an outstanding level and quality of play heading into the knockout rounds.”
The release further said, “The respective fans and communities have descended on the venue in their numbers, and we are thankful for their unwavering support, which has aided the event in being considered a phenomenon. Without their support alongside the backing of the players, the tournament would not be what it is today.”
The group stage, which will last for three nights, will end on July 26th. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the quarterfinal and subsequent semi-final round on July 27th. The grand finale is pegged for August 3rd.
Winner of the event will collect $500,000 and the championship trophy, plus earn an automatic berth in the National Championships in August.
The second, third and fourth place finishers would cop $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
The eight teams that fail to advance from the group round will contest the Guinness Plate Championship.
To date Beacons [Bartica Champion], Melanie ‘B’ [East Coast Demerara winner], Brothers United [West Bank Demerara/East Bank Demerara winner], Trafalgar [Berbice champion] and High Rollers [Linden champion] have secured automatic berths to the National Championships.
