Gunman snatches over $30M from Berbice woman outside bank
Police are on the hunt for a lone gunman who robbed a woman of some $30 million outside of a commercial bank at Rose Hall Town, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

The incident occurred just outside of a commercial bank.
The daring daylight robbery occurred at around 10:20h in the busy commercial district of Rose Hall Town as the businesswoman exited a vehicle and was about to make her way into a local bank.
According to Subramani Mangali, his wife 41-year-old Nalaili Mangali, the co-owner of Permaul Trading and Distribution, was taking $18.5 million and in excess of $13 million in cheques to deposit at Republic Bank when she was robbed by a lone gunman.
The businessman related to the media that as his wife exited the vehicle along with an employee, a lone gunman came up to her, pushed the worker aside and snatched the money bag.
He said the man quickly made his escape on foot. There are reports that the gunman later joined an accomplice on a motorbike.
Mangali related that the company does not make bank deposits on a daily basis but whenever an amount is accumulated then deposits are made.
This is not the first time the couple was robbed of huge amounts of cash.
In August 2016, the businessman was about to make a deposit of $2 million when he was approached by a lone gunman who robbed him of the money.
In 2014, there was a similar instance. On that occasion, it was two bandits on motorcycle and $10 million was taken from the businessman.
Mangali told this publication that he is frustrated. He said that it is very difficult to do business in light of the high instances of crime.
The businessman called for more Police presence on the road while also noting that commercial banks need to also provide protection for their customers.
Mangali expressed disappointment at the fact that it has been very difficult for him to get CCTV footage from a commercial bank regarding the incident. He pointed out that he is still waiting on footage from the bank of the 2016 robbery. (G4)
