Home News Gunmen escape with $4.4M after home invasion at Nismes
Police are on the hunt for two men who robbed a Nismes, West Bank Demerara (WBD) resident of $4.4 million in cash just before midnight on Monday.
Based on reports gathered, the victim is a gold detector operator who is employed with a company in Chi Chi Backdam, Upper Mazaruni River.
On the day in question about 22:30h, the victim was reportedly lying on a chair in the living room of his home watching television and fell asleep.
He told investigators that when he woke up, he saw an identifiable male entering the living room with what appeared to be a handgun which he pointed at him.
The gunman then ordered the WBD resident to not move and keep quiet while demanding money. Soon after, the victim was ordered to lie face down on the floor.
Shortly after, a second suspect whose face was covered by white cloth and who was also armed with a black handgun entered the living room. One of the men then gagged and bound the victim.
It was reported that after the constant demands and threats, the man became fearful for his life and pointed to the location where the money was kept.
After retrieving the money, the suspects exited the house and made good their escape in a waiting motor car.
The victim managed to free himself from his bonds and raised an alarm. The Police were summoned and an investigation was launched. No arrests were made up to press time.
